Well, it took a few months but the question of where to put my studio
has been solved! After discarding the attic because of cost and the
garage because of dust I decided to move into our master bedroom – the
room is huge, big enough for 2 king size beds and double the furniture
so it’s ideal. I’ve painted the walls a soft green and the trim white
and it’s beautiful. I have my two big looms in there, three sock
knitting machines, a flat bed knitting machine, two sewing machines
and a serger, and an extra table and I still have room to move around.
It just needs a little fine tuning and I’ll be “working” again!

It’s been a long time! I moved to this small community in July 2008 with the intention of establishing my studio in 2 pieces in this building – my rug loom in the Gallery itself and my 8-S Woolhouse in the smallest of bedrooms upstairs. I didn’t give any thought to where I was going to put my “stash” …. my rather large “stash”. I tried the storeroom, well, it got buried under other stuff and I didn’t see any of it until last December when I cleaned out the storeroom and moved all my “stash” upstairs into my bedroom! Now I have those big plastic bins 6 wide and 4 high along one whole wall in the bedroom and the IKEA basket system is full of yarn all sorted by type and colour and there’s still about 4 garbage bags full of rug yarn in the living room. In my official loom room there’s a set of shelves along one wall that’ s full of cones of yarn, the top shelf has archive boxes 6 wide and 3 high with other “stuff” and then there’s the baskets on wheels and the odd boxes …….. well, you get the idea.
I had a great plan to go up into the attic and build a studio up there, so I called Ray the carpenter and he came to take a look – I can’t do it unless I raise the roof, put in dormers and an escape route. I can’t afford that. So, the question is “where do I put my studio?” I’m at a loss. Ray suggested insulating the garage and putting in a space heater but Carl has his woodworking workshop in the back half so I’m not sure that would work. Sylvia of Echo of the Past farm has offered her living room but even though it’s a huge room I have 2 big looms and all that “stash” so it would mean taking it over completely!!
I have to think about this more.

Yup, it’s about time I added something to this blog and there’s no time like the present.
I am a weaver who happens to spin, dye, felt (both wet and needle), knit, do silk fusion and I’m just getting interested in re-fashion. There should definitely be something to write about in that lot but right now it’s back to painting, walls that is, as I try and get my Gallery ready to re-open May 1st.
